Not Hell Nor Jail Holds Fear For Me

by Jersey D Gibson

Serve my time
Yes I did
Long it was
More than most.
Scrape my hand
And my heart
Wound was septic
Will not heal.
Past is gone
So is future
Days gone by
Will not return.
Ran the race
I did lost
Take me back
Am I yours?
Pills won't cure
Doctors won't stop
Can not kill
These bad dreams.
Lack of sleep
Loss of time
Do not know
Who I am.
Come back soon
But too late
A different man
I hate change.
Bring me down
Keep me warm
In your arms
I am safe.
I am here
Look at me
Tear in eye
I am home.

Author's Note: I promised myself that I wouldn't write about Iraq while I was here. This is the closest I've come to breaking that promise.

Not much longer now.

My Dad was a WWII Vet- never talked about it, but once told me that he came home a "Different" person and he never slept normally again. Excellent write Jersey- had to be tough to write!
