to HELL and back

by Matthew Taylor

that dark stormy friday, long ,long ago..
the earth trembled, the skies erupted..
God turned His back on His only Son.
the pain was for gain,
the sacrifice was given freely,
but can we ever realize,
or visualize, comprehend or fathom?
what He endured for love,
to come from heaven above, to die...
the death of deaths, His last breaths,
spoke of us, His thoughts went beyond the pain
the blood, the shame, toward every one who would believe
yes, He went to Hell and back for us!
it's not just a saying,
and while you are praying, thank Him
although it can never be enough,
say it, pray it, shout it..
pour out your heart about it,
To Hell and back for you He went,
twisted limbs broken and bent,
back scarred and bruised
spit on, mocked and abused..
the King of Kings,
paid the price in full.
Died for our trangressions
and went to Hell,
but came back victorious,
death has no sting, the grave is powerless
He lives and reigns forever more,
but every time you start to slip,or fall
remember that the Savior took that trip..
to Hell and back for you.

Author's Note: a reflection before EASTER SUNDAY, I got saved Easter week 1972, today I want to renew afresh that grateful heart, my 34th year secure in His hands, my words will never be sufficient, but Your grace will be for me Lord, I love You.
