heron

by Peter Humphreys

wearily
waiting
watching
weir
water
whirling
winding
where
we
where
when
we
wondered
why
who
what
whether

windward

fish
darting
caught
eaten

wings
flapping

moment
gone

Hi Peter. Without a mention of the great fisher-bird you build a vivid picture through these ideas. For me, the weir solidified what is happening, but that's just me. Thanks for this.

this was a really interesting poem. I was reading through the 'w' words thinking hmmm, then suddenly - action at the end, quick and over just like that. got to thinking you'd done all the 'w' words to set a moment of stillness, suddenly interupted with the gist of the whole thing dropping out of the sky. very ingenious is what I'm thinking. or maybe I'm way off track. just a thought - and the reason I enjoyed it so much.

Interesting and creative use of alliteration, while painting a very vivid image. Great write!
