Broken Butterfly Wings

by Genevieve Sturrock

Broken butterfly wings
A nightingale
Who no longer sings
Shattered hopes
And forgetten dreams
For so long
My life was full of these things

Then along came you
With soulful eyes
So honest and true
With a faith so strong
And a love so free
That it overcame
Broken butterfly wings

With a gentle touch
And a patient hand
You held me in your arms
Until I could stand
Now I'm ready to try
To spread my wings and fly
I can do anything
On my butterfly wings

I can do anything...
...on my butterfly wings

"Broken Butterfly wings" is an unusual and fine image, and this is a poem of repair and metamorphosis (perfect) even within the butterfly stage. I am sure it is beautiful when sung, especially, the "butterfly wings" can be varied with subtle voice variations.
