A Sunny Disposition

by Tracy Ellen

The way my mind affects me
It’s a damn shame, an atrocity
Who can I blame? Seriously
Give me a name....

The rights, the wrongs
The how longs
The way the light shines
Shining all the damn time
On my sad moments in the sun
When I’m pinning in my prime
‘Cuz I’m not the one.

The suns always shining on me
The suns always blinding me
Just like M. on the beach, outta reach
And everyone knows
That’s the way it goes, except me.

I’m the freak that’s not free
Too much light to see
And the way the rope binds
Burning, binding all the damn time
Keeps my hands from covering my eyes
When I’m pinning in my mind
For that sunny prize

But the suns burning
And the ropes binding
All the damn time
And I’m trying not to be dying
Just minding to the sublime

And everyone knows
That’s the way it goes, except me
Except me
Well, we’ll see
The sun’s not always in the sky
Just the universe
There is time yet for M.
to shake the curse.
