"Desultory"

by Max Phineas

I think from moments of utmost hilarity
Come words of deepest sincerity

Seriousness masked in comedy
A common remedy for those still trapped in shells.

The wisest words are spoken
When hearts are shattered.

Lives intact will never remain so
If living is a lie
That will not have mattered.

And so we walk the streets, broken
In hopes of finding our best selves.

We are a hypnotist's dream;
Bound and confined by our own wicked spells.

Author's Note: And I repeat, desultory.

I love it...especially the last line!
