Velvet

by Richard Vince

Memory is shining...

I remember when you smiled for me...
Your eyes shone like stars
And there was a glow around you...
My non-angelic angel...
A heavenly vision in velvet

And I remember smiling for you...
Because I knew that one day
We would smile together
And we would never cease...
Our smiles would take us
Through our every day...

But now you smile for him.
And smiling for me is just a memory
A thought that I was loved once...

Now you smile for him...
And I thank God
That one of us is smiling.

I love the evolution of this piece as you read...I saw a lot of the subject in the 1st stanza and then the imagery starts to fade with the poem, like the memory of the smile, as you continue...the resolve at the end shows a peace of mind and inner strength not often achieved...well done Vince...nice read, jewels
