Mindtravels: A Trini Don' Make Joke 'Bout Music by Julie Adamsthick morning
air rises
between mountains
like breath between bodies
in the bay, and 'roun' de Savanna
rhythm section pulses
on de steel pan
knockin' coconuts from their nest
celebration echoes
in waves, trekking
deep oceans
rocking from the loins
of coral reefs
to foothills
to carnival
to the legs
like Moko Jumbie
a world richly oiled with movement
where passion-peppered lips
come in doubles
after marinating
like stew chicken
on the hip
on the tongue
whole day long
Calypsonian heat rises
like love, after nightfall
bodies, like the rolling hills
winding down the day
long into that
good night
tune after tune
girls dancin' barefoot
whol' nigh' tru'
