Every Step Is Upon Sacred Ground

by Mae D Morey

when there is a
fade long before the dawn
like a tracing line
of melody
the last breath
of haunting
echoing tune
drips down the moonlight
caught in tree branches
rich with the green abundance of summer

let me ask you

with worship as your foot steps
with prayer as your posture
can you whirl
like a wind storm
in praise of the spirits about you
can you call up the power
by dancing your devotion

when the silver is earth and sky
when the moon flows across snow and ice
when the arched fingers of the slumbering trees embrace the sky

let me ask you

with worship as your foot steps
with prayer as your posture
can you whirl
like a wind storm
in praise of the spirits about you
can you call up the power
by dancing your devotion.

each step I make upon this Earth
is placed on sacred ground.
I walk in worship
