She would take all of the starched
Button-down, pin-point Oxford shirts
Wash them
Dry them,
And turn them all into
Shirts of the evening.
(Would she take any when leaving?)
Such a formal affair
That if she did care
She would informalize.
We won't even mention all of the neckties.
I'd watch, waiting and wanting
To join her in the cool of the eve,
As she sat smiling in my shirt sleeves.
While I sat there laughing
Until my sides ached.
So what would happen to the ties?
(I think that I should just run and hide!)
