All she ever wanted
was someone to love
and to be loved by
to grow old with
to laugh
and to cry

All she ever yearned for
was someone to hold her
to pick her up
to help her
and to share with
her life

All she ever had
was someone to be with
to do for
to be yelled at
to be treated badly
and cry alone

All he ever wanted
was someone like her
a person who was lacking
in any self worth
a person who would
be there
and do for him
with no life of her own

She did not get
what she wanted
but what she needed
was clear
She needed someone
to love her
and hold her dear
