Unlock The Door

by James Zealy

Brick by brick
I built a wall
Encircling my emotions
Fortified by anger fear and grief

A brick for each anger filled moment
A brick for each indiscretion
A brick for every fear to act
A brick for each violation of trust
A brick for every loss

A gross or more or maybe two
Held together by despair's mortar
So no one can feel the warmth of humanity
Or penetrate the fortress of pain
Behind which I hide

Hardened and fixated by the passing of time
Until no one can get through
All the while the back door
Awaits the key, and its keeper
