&i hate love poems by Rhyana Fisherthe flowery hyperbole
bowing to perfect looks
...............perfect emotions
...............perfect lives
&we've never been perfect
overweight and stick thin
hiding behind too serious and too funny
bad haircuts and goggly glasses
dim lamplight reflects from your cheek
as you lie there, sick and sleeping
&i remember
three years ago (so long already?)
you jumped into a new life
no assurances i'd catch you
.........................................but i did
all for a dream and a promise of something
that /might/ be better
&everything changed
it's not the way i imagined it
it's a hundred thousand times better
no romantic dinners or flowers or fluttering stomachs
just more small kindnesses than i can count
...the safety of your presence
...the warmth of your arms wrapped tight
you brought home with you
...&i love you
but i still hate love poems 03/24/2006 Posted on 03/24/2006 Copyright © 2024 Rhyana Fisher
