A Book

by Delilah Coyne

I curl up and open to the page I've marked with the torn corner of a receipt.
The words on the page leap to meet my eyes and within seconds I'm soaring to a new place.

I'm fighting dragons and casting spells.

I'm solving crimes and committing them.

I'm wrestling demons and running with the pack.

I'm hiding from the sun and eating flesh.

I'm discovering myself and soaring to new heights.

I'm a hero and a villian, a sinner and a saint.

I'm in England, France, Egypt, the wild, wild west.

I'm in an epic battle to save mankind!

"Mommy..."

"...mommy... I'm thirsty."

I mark my page with the torn corner of a receipt, looking forward to my next escape.

Been there, done that! Wonderful description of the way things truely are with kids. I once read "The World According To Garp" in a day....can you imagine how my house looked when I finished? This poem brought back alot of memories. Excellent conotation on Motherhood! I really enjoyed reading this!
