don't be too weary of your sins, embrace dalmnation by Lauren Singermaybe i'm an alabaster kitten
or a semi-eroding apparition
between parody and figment.
( i really don't know anything, brother,
i haven't at all lived! )
sliding down the metal rims of
inbetween glass-door hiding spots
and children's secretplaces
meant not to be disturbed
by the too-big hands of adults
mussing hair and poking flushed cheeks,
i find the ecstasy of confinement
between the sheets and out of the way.
chaos and shirt-tails and cufflinks
and belittled blurts of broken syllables,
i think i won't start with you today,
stay under the covers
and feign alert.
drink up this medicine,
a disease that's catching like malaria
to spread to your limbs in a rash unexplained
by the most trusted of brethren.
drown your hopelessness in giblets and gravy.
forget the notion of perserverence
and lay out your wet clothes to be folded in the morning.
i have faith in the minds of
cockroach-eyed heathens
to tear this world to shreds
and spit on the remains. 03/20/2006 Posted on 03/20/2006 Copyright © 2024 Lauren Singer
