WONDERLAND-Part 3 Spring by Joan SerratelliSpring has sprung
in WONDERLAND
and it is an awesome sight
if you can see the blooms
admidst the tourist cars
that have just arrived
to see their vacation homes
The tourists are impolite,
impatient as they take
all the things the locals love
and now claim it as their own
The taxes have risen
in WONDERLAND
so much that the locals
are forced to sell their homes
WONDERLAND is no longer
so wonderful
for the people who
once called it "home" 03/20/2006
Author's Note: This is the third in my series called "WONDERLAND" Unfortunately, it's true.

Posted by Delilah Coyne on 03/20/06 at 04:09 PM I can relate to this! Living in a post-Katrina town just north of New Orleans, I have come to live in a place exactly like this poem. So many people from the city have moved here and it's overwhelming! My little rural town has become a booming city overnight. |
