Our Friendship

by Joe Cramer

Our friendship is predicated upon the fact
That we are simply, succinctly just friends.
Of course this is not what I would intend,
I would have preferred some semblance of love,
Or just perhaps devotion to go along with my emotions.
Instead I just wait until the next time that
I can be with you again, mon chere amor,
(It is your true heart that I adore.)
Somedays I wait, hoping the worm will turn
That you will consider where I am
And state how much you truly miss me.

Our friendship lies in the fact that we
Are merely just friends, nothing more.
I would prefer lovers, and not just friends
With benefits.
I wish that I could tell you
That I love you
But I can't, because it's not true.
I do miss you, in such a friendly form and fashion
And after awhile perhaps you will miss me too.
In the meantime, for all intent and purposes
You remain just a good friend.

I am constantly reminded by the fact that
Your friendship crushes me
In a way that I could never
Have originally foretold or understood.
Your true heart will never be free,
No, not now, not ever.
Together, we will never grow old.
I wanted to share with you
All of the words of my heart,
Instead you simply cast me aside
With the curt, sparse words you did impart.
You stated that I was not intelligent enough
To be more than just good friends,
Your supposed friendship crushes me.

Wonderful poem- you really did hit the target with this one. Her loss; not yours!
