I Tried

by Joan Serratelli

I tried to give her everything
but it was never enough
she always demanded more
my love for her meant nothing
she wanted things only money could buy

I tried to teach her things
that were important to me
she laughed at my system of values
and rejected the things I stood for
she wanted things only money could buy

I tried to give her my love
but she threw it away
she didn't care about emotions,
after all, they were free
she wanted things only money could buy

I tried to put her on the right path
but she wouldn't be lead
Her values were based on only one thing
her only true love was for herself
she wanted nothing to do with me

this poem can relate to a lot of people. my mother always tried to lead me in the right direction, she is lucky to have you. but there is only so much you can do with stubborn people.
