"Holden"

by Max Phineas

It was just getting light out
Didn’t know where the hell to go
I should’ve gone back.

Looked like it was going to rain

Boy, did it scare me.
I knew the part about pretending
All I wanted to do was say good-bye

I kept going,
Afraid to stop.

I’m sorry
Don’t let me disappear
Please, don’t let me
I’m sorry!

Sweating like a bastard
Raining in buckets

I kept going,
Afraid to stop.

Author's Note: This was just an assignment I had in my AP English class today. Using the last two chapters of The Catcher in the Rye, we had to create a poem using only phrases from the book. In doing so we had to capture the essence of the book in just the poem. Though I'm not particularly fond of the poem, I thought it was a great idea for an assignment.

I had a very similar assignment after reading Frankenstein last spring. I think you did a very good job with this.
