Easter Celebration

by Matthew Taylor

each year we celebrate Easter,
with flowers, a feast of lamb, colored eggs,
and a multitude of bunnies.
only one of these things have anything to do with,
the true meaning and ressurection of the King!
the word Easter is not in the bible,
yet we call it a religious day,
we eat lamb, because the Lamb of God..
HAS RISEN!
we dilute our children with false meanings,
we dilute even ourselves.
there was nothing GOOD about the friday preceeding,
our Lord suffered and was bleeding.
the bible never mentions this man made thing called lent
another guise to distract from the real event.
this year , like every year, since I met the savior..
I will celebrate! sing to the Lord praises and worship!
and thank my God for His Son's sacrifice, for me!
the colored eggs are nice, if you like hard boiled,
please though, recognize the truth..
because He lives we can face tomorrow,
and life is worth the living , just because,
He lives!

This was an interesting read for me. I truly wish we didn't call it "Easter". The name Easter is from either the Assyrian goddess of fertility and war - Ashtart - or the Babylonian fertility goddess - Ishtar. I know the eggs and bunnies are Babylonian, not Christian at all. So we don't do the Easter Bunny thing in our household. I French, Easter is (I believe) Pasqual, and in Spanish it is Pascal. This makes so much sense. Jesus was us Christian's pascal lamb. I wish we used a relevant name in English. Anyway, I really enjoyed your poem, but you are preaching to the choir.
