King of Crows by Nicole AssenzaI live from bliss to bliss of
You, your checkered floors
You're
Touching ceilings
Tall and skeletal king you are
Crowns are added aesthetics
Beyond your earthly bounds
To look at yous a torment
My short, vain smiles cant convey
Even in my translucent flatteries
To put you among mortals
Lightly
Convection displays its heat waves
Stewing my organs
Is it summer already?
I have to win you Im--
Repeating your name in pseudo-exotic
Sounding ways
Stomp my foot I will
Until my gold hat impress you
And Ill bounce too
Im stubborn to love you
The way Christians love their apocalypse
My absolute designation
Its a game you didnt even know
You were playing, did you?
Each thought of scarecrow boys
Gains territory
Except my glass half dreary side
That jests and laughs
Long live the king of crows
Who comes merely to
Rest his hand
Heavily
Neither here nor there

If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!'"
~ Thomas Parke D'Invilliers
Quote at the beginning of The Great Gatsby, which I'm currently reading in school. I very well enjoyed it, maybe because it correlates perfectly with my feelings at the moment. I'm in love with someone who is as tall as a damn giraffe! And I am no tall lady, I assure you. And, wow...704 times my poetry has been read on this site and yet I have only *20* comments.

Posted by Matthew Zangen on 05/26/06 at 05:05 PM You paint such beautiful oddities, Nicole, but I sometimes have a hard time following the flow, as happened to me here. I think some more punctuation to follow your rhythm (I can feel it, but can't see it), or some change in your form would definitely pull this together.
I'd love to have this one explained to me as well :). |
