Siesta

by Krystall Vega

Noon would flash itself through the window
or were there windows?
and my mother would lie in bed on some sheets
blue? brown? flowered print?
and place my twin brother and I on either side of her
so comfortably as if the sheets had been asking for our presence
all along.

Her eyelids would then get heavier
and heavier
until she led us to believe they'd be closed for another hour.
Slowly, we’'d inch our faces towards her youthful bronzed face
Closer. . .and closer until
“AAAAH!!”
She tricked us!

We’'d giggle until we couldn't laugh anymore
then settle down
and place ourselves back in our appointed places
Only to wait for her eyelids to shut once again.

Terrific capture of a snapshot memory! Nostalgia can be good! Nice write, Krystall.
