"Buried Treasure"

by Max Phineas

Reaching upward, I snatch the setting Sun
from its hovering place overhead.
And a sky sprinkled pink with remaining rays of light
Dims to black

As I smash it into a million shards
of glass, glowing a translucent orange.

And I scatter the pieces,
Burying them beneath the dunes.

For I long to see the elation of a child-
Who goes through his life kicking sand-
As he unearths his own piece of sunlight.

Divine vividness...I just lingered, especially I do love the way the last verse comes...the picture doesn't leave me. Wonderful poem!

This poem feels like summer. The idea is original and well executed, as though you are being sure to save something for generations yet born.

Really impressive and powerful. I love the directness and the strength of imagination that you have here. Thanks to "poem of the day" I know your poetry and that you can do this! This is the real power of poetry, and what makes it endure and give light to others now--and in time to come.
