The Lament

by Brian Francis

I am sitting here and feeling kind of lonely
Wasting away in the Arizona sun
Just thinking about all the reasons you left me
And wondering what I could have said or done

Come back my love, share with me the sunrise
Or take a walk with me under the desert sky
I just need to have you here standing beside me
Holding my hand and watching time go by

I know now that life alone is painful
It seems to me you’ve taught that lesson well
Come and save me from this loneliness and heartache
Pick me up and take me from this living hell

Free me from this torture and torment
Give me love and help my soul to heal
Take my hand and lead me through our lifetime
Hold me tight again so your warmth I feel

what a lovely way to bare the lamenting soul, especially the imagery offered in the first two stanzas...I saw the love through those natural images...I liked what you said in the last two stanzas but think perhaps a few images down there will bring the depth of your feeling into a tangible scope of understanding between you and the reader...thank you for sharing such a candid and expressive piece...
