For Einstein

by Joan Serratelli

When she saw the huge dog
that day
She fell in love
So big, so beautiful
so ready to be loved

She took him home that day
and started
to feed him, to walk him
to fullfill all his needs

But something was wrong
this giant
was flawed, was sick
she loved him even more

He just wasn't destined to
grow old I guess
because the poor dog
seizured himself to death

And as he lay dying
she never left his side
she cried, she mourned
her sweet gentle giant
had died in her arms

Author's Note: This poem was written for my daughter., in memory of her dog, Einstein. I'm putting it in "My Children" folder because that's where it belongs. I loved that dog as if he was my child
