It Rained That Day

by James Zealy

It rained that day
While we drove, pitched papers
From the rear hatch of an '84 Renault
Wind and rain blinded

While we laughed at the silliness
Bereft of sense about the storm
As it ripped trees up behind us
Swirled pets howling off the ground

Landed trees on houses
And we played in the pouring storm
Ignorant of the danger
Threw papers where ever

Fun at natures expense
And our good fortune.
