Something New

by John Harder

Everyone goes away
Replaced by unfamiliar faces
and peculiar voices
It's you I thought I knew
did I in time?

Best of friends fade into memories
like a picture of old
Photos speak volumes
Volumes of hazed thoughts
and forgotten times
Where is everyone?

Sometimes it seems I know
the destiny that awaits me
Condemned to a life of solitude
No one to come home to
No one to wake up to
Is it true?

Walking along the tired streets
it's all so familiar
Been here a thousand times
but you, I do not recognize
Are you new in town?

Author's Note: sometimes my natural need for companionship weighs heavy.

Excellent poem, John. Solitude, sadly sometimes, makes for great poetics. Nice write.
