Topic: Back Door To The Mind

by Joan Serratelli

In every mind
there is a front door
and a back

In the front door
you welcome
pleasant thoughts

Thoughts that make you happy
thoughts that make you laugh
thoughts of better days lived

Back door thoughts
are different
you dread them

They sneak in
through the back
and stay

They haunt you
they taunt you
that is how they play

Once they come,
they never leave
they just play their pesty games

You can try to
kick them out
but they don't leave

They just stay
there and linger
until you cannot breathe

Back door thoughts
are nasty thoughts
thoughts better off gone

Better off forgotten
Better off unspoken
Better off buried

In the deep,dark recesses
of the back door
to your mind
