Love Leaves Scars

by Joan Serratelli

Love leaves scars
I know this is true
because I'm sitting here
waiting for you

You don't call
you don't write
You just leave me hanging
and crying all night

What did I do?
What did I say?
Why are you choosing
to treat me this way?

You have told me
that nothing ever lasts
Are we then destined
to let out love be in our past?

Two circles going
two separate ways
never making contact
I guess there's nothing left to say

Except that I loved you
a long time ago
A love never to be realized
A love now gone, never to be so.

I'm scarred by the thought
of love passing
I'm sad by the reality
of love not lasting
