Object of Her Desire

by Soulo Jacob Bourgeau

Objectify me; placed
high on curio shelf
just out of reach from your
capricious heart shaped smudge

Safely behind lead glass
you may still take me down
for occasional Hallmark Days
and flanneled winter hugs

But please when youÂ’re done
(and youÂ’ve had all your fun)
return me back amongst
heirlooms and fragile things

Safe from appraisal
by fickle auctioneers

Author's Note: Thanks, Christine. I've reworked the line breaks and remodeled the title (originally: "Objectify"). Your suggestions were invaluable as always. More revisions still possible. Everyone else: critique if so inclined.

indeed I feel the same...I love the way you found and placed the plea 'return me back amongst heirlooms and fragile things'. Showering work of heART, Soulo. * —Jill

Wow! POTD! Congratulations. I love the metaphor you've used here. It works really well for the point you are trying to make. Well executed and a great read!!

this makes me sad, i don't know why. i guess the perspective of the the "object" is not often considered. the image of a doll, along with "curio," being a plaything to another is demeaning and tragic, as so aptly drawn out in the unforgettable "capricious heart shaped smudge" other evocative lines that bring forth the emotional tug for me -- flanneled winter hugs.. and....fragile things...congratulations on POTD. reading through this one, I come away with an entirely different take on what the 'object' of her affection is.. maybe I am roaming around in the xxx category... lol.. please accept my apologies... lol.. aloha..
