I took off the ring.

Set it down on the dresser, knowing I was closing a chapter.

One I'd read over and over in my mind, memorized it a thousand times.

A new life begins as the old fades away, and I can't help wonder is it wrong of me?

While I know life goes on without you, I know you'll never be far.

You were the light that filled my soul, now you're my shining star.

I'm sure you'll guide me through life, watch over me from above.

But I don't believe that I'll ever find another, one that comes close to who you are.

You'd want me to move forward, be happy everday.

But how is that possible, without you here each day?

So I took off the ring.

Laid it down on the dresser, and prayed you were in a better place.

Because I know you're never going to come back, you wouldn't want my life to be a waste.

So I took off the ring.

Put it on a chain, so I can hold you close to my heart.

And may God forgive me if I strayed for a while, I couldn't believe and I didn't want to face.

This world without you doesn't seem as clear, doesn't look as appealing as it was.

But I'm going to keep you close, you're always going to be in my heart.

So I took off the ring.

To symbolize this new chapter, a beginning of a life without you.

And I'm sure whenever I look at her, I'll also be smiling at you.

She'll grow to be just like her father, a strong and loving child.

I'll tell her you were the kindest man, the most wonderful man alive.

When she grows older and wiser, she'll ask more questions like where the ring you gave me was.

And I'll pull out my necklace, show her our love and bring you back to life.

I took off the ring.

That you gave to me to symbolize our life, and I'll wear it forever around my neck till the day I die.
