Eccentric Pizza

by Richard Vince

Her name bothered me
Because I didn't know how
To spell it, so I never
Really knew how to say it.
I hope I got it somewhere
Near correct.

I never really knew her
Anyway, but somehow
Managed to create an
In joke with one of
Her friends. I didn't know
How to spell his name either.

After that, my memory
Appears blank. It all
Seemed like something
Entirely separate from
The remainder of my life.
An episode that drifts
Endlessly because I cannot
Anchor it in time.

For all I know she could
Still be just up the road,
Cooking ineptly in
That same kitchen where
I saw pizza cooked in
A very original way.

I find it strange that
I've not tried to get off
The bus there by mistake;
Maybe I really do
Adapt too easily.

(Except where it comes
To names.)

Crush on the eclectic pizza girl? I love how this poem is a snapshot of a fond memory. Well done.
