Strings

by Nicole Assenza

whatever happened to us
unraveling darkness
like orange peels
splitting hairs
is splitting past hearts now
there’s something undone in me
tying knots
like some obsessive chain
thinner each time
and yet let it all be buried
since all tragedies fail
but somehow
there’s still wind in the old wires
and the orange appeal
still alluring
what’s there to tie up now?
there’s some sharp parts
to dull
keep from cutting up
symphonies striking chords
of sympathy or impossible wants
it lets you know that
all I am is spinning
in the spiral of your eyes

This builds up to a lovely ending, thank you.
