Columbus had no idea by Scott Cadence
Lying beside me
our eyes look up toward the ceiling
our minds find a way to use it
as a blue screen
reviewing
our moments together
the world is quiet now
settled by the chance
that it might miss a word
and so it waits
collectively,
all it's actors
hushed behind the curtain
of our stage
air comes in at the window
like a current it flows along the coast of my body
and you spin starboard around my heart
with the anticipation and newness you tempt
you change my direction
by maneuvers that are anxious knots within me -
my mind-sails
can barely
hold you in
And I wonder
if you could be the one
who keeps me from the cut and paste?
with your feet tapping at the headboard
my words
present themselves
singing to the beat
in the night time rhythm of my room
they don't seem so terribly misplaced
I noticed then
just under the spherical view
of you on my horizon
the world was fish eyed
everything represented there
bending into scope
And from your skin there was a lift-off of color
a spectrum that descended outward
an atmosphere of glowing blush to waxing sable
I could have flown
like the blood rushing to claim stake
you were my new discovery -
uncharted emotion
and Columbus had no idea.
