Schroeder's Shoulder by Bradd HowardI will be your Lucy
lay atop your piano
and stare into eyes which have never looked at me.
Why must you keep playing this same song?
shoulders slumped
freckles stretching across the width of your back.
I've long since stopped dancing for you
now I just listen raptly
hoping that my silence, my stillness
will bring the attention that my energy never received.
I always have loved your shoulders
and the way your arms ripple when your fingers dance along the keys,
the lock of hair that falls in your eyes.
I am learning to be content with this. 01/04/2006 Author's Note: Charles Schultz breaks my heart. Lucy and Schroeder... a true case of unrequited love.
