hope

by Peter Humphreys

Above
the darkling
road,
Orion strides.

The night
is bold black,
dark
beyond
imaginings.

Once more,
I secret
my way,
under cover
of
bleakness.

Beside me
the ink black
sea,
calm
after
Atlantic
rage.

A gull startles.

Down the
boreen,
a candle
flickers.

You are there.

There is
hope.

Peter, without you ever saying so, I feel Ireland in your words. Where and who you are come through in how you write these wonderful words down. I enjoy them very much. Here's hope for peace everywhere, and in that ancestral land of mine, too.
