More Half Open Letters

by Nicole Assenza

I picture you at the receiving end
You’re standing there, waiting
I haven't seen you in a while
Silence crackles happily like tinsel
But it’s a decoration of awkwardness
There’s a need to say
Something more
But like peanut butter it sticks
To the roof of my mouth
And when it fails
There’s always your letters
Half open
And mine
Half written
To remind me
I’m always on the receiving end

Author's Note: This specifically is about my ex boyfriend who joined the Navy. For the life of me I can't think of a title =(..
