ONE PERFECT DAY by W. Mahlon PurdinEach day the world is born anew
The poet said, and it's true.
Up early, the air is clean
The sky is having fun blue.
Doing what you must do,
Leave away those things that claim
And twist the day into something
Old and lame.
Just once, do the things that
Make you true and clear
Like when your mother hugged you
And whispered dear.
Just once turn into that person
Who you've always wanted to be,
Who skips along through life
Untroubled and untroubling,
Doing smily things and happy
Blasting through the day:
Kicking aside the worries,
Casting off the dread,
Living full of life,
Not dying for the dead.
Be happy, don't worry,
Like the Doublemint ads.
Be a puppy dog.
Forget about our dads.
One perfect day.
It's possible. They say.
