don't remember me by Joseff Maratso sad, the love of two strangers
of whom two interwoven secrets rest
shed tears fall to the virgin snow
and sound out words of untold poetry
low hollow reverberations
from the passive cello voice
fill the empty dark wood room
with emotive memories and color
shades of joy and hues of laughter
overbearing tones of anger and pain
black corners of stained oak and solitude
death, birth, old age, and youth
then, in the crest of sunlight
I see our unwritten futures
together, apart, forever, apart
longing, _____, emptiness, _____
you turn slowly, I reach for you
my hand to your cheek
my thumb across your sadness
"don't remember me."
my lips to your forehead
"modern girls don't cry..." 12/23/2005 Author's Note: NOTES: Many days were spent in the dark wooden room - the hours they laughed and the quite moments of connection. She would knit and he would play the cello.
