Wars Fought In God's Name

by Hartwell Davis

Along the quiet and sandy beach I walked in contemplation
of days long ago when I was younger and gayer of heart
Reflecting now on today’s sorrows, troubles and indignation
of hate and wars fought in God’s name.
If you are a WASP, you are accepted in this neighborhood,
but catholics, blacks, and Jews are outcast.
Let moneyed jews and impoverished blacks fight back
and kill WASP in God’s name.
“Ye are the light of the world”; The Christian torch spread and the word will be heard.
There is no heaven for others.
If you aren’t a Christian, become a Buddhist monk
Then you can become a gasoline soaked living torch
A burning light of the world in God’s name.
It would seem that I’m an atheist; the way I preach to all.
And in disgust I disclaim the churches of man.
But truly I believe in God, a supreme being...
but only the God of life, of forever;
a God that does not call for the ease of existence of those that do not believe.
Am I a peacemaker then?
Would I allow myself to be enslaved because my ideology is not war? No a thousand nos.
War has no purpose, but to defend one’s honor, loved ones, home and country.
All else is wrong.
Today we must exist together. We must live.
Do what must be done to preserve existence, but do not attempt to wage war on other.

Author's Note: This was written before I became a Christian, but how well it explains the searching heart.
