When A Young Man Has Gone

by Hartwell Davis

When death reaches out a cruel hand to take away
The one we love whether young or old, we say
Death is cruel to hurt us so for we feel pain
Sometimes we die with the one who is gone
And wonder shall we ever live again.

How oft we do not know how cruel life can be
Much pain and hurt for the living we do not see
But it may be death has brought new life to the one thatÂ’s gone
For many find joy in the everlasting where life is not cruel
For there they walk, and they do not walk alone.

When death has taken one so young, it is then we say
Where has the young gone, why was youth taken away
But all life is like a drop of water in the lake
It sends forth ripples that touches another life
And sweet memories by others, cruel death can never take.
