Silence by Peter HumphreysCradling
her
body
in mine,
touching lips,
hair flowing
across eyes,
I held her
just that
little
too tightly,
a shudder
of pain
passed
through
her body
to mine,
bone
to
bone.
We knew
this
really was
the
last time.
Walking down
the pathway
bridled
with flowers,
I turned,
a wave,
a sigh
so deep
my body
cleft.
The long
journey
home
across
moors.
A tear
The phone call.
Silence.
