Silence

by Peter Humphreys

Cradling
her
body
in mine,
touching lips,
hair flowing
across eyes,
I held her
just that
little
too tightly,
a shudder
of pain
passed
through
her body
to mine,
bone
to
bone.

We knew
this
really was
the
last time.

Walking down
the pathway
bridled
with flowers,
I turned,
a wave,
a sigh
so deep
my body
cleft.

The long
journey
home
across
moors.

A tear

The phone call.

Silence.

This is so full of feeling and tenderness. And sadness permeates it. A beautiful read.

Seems that it's so often only in the pain of parting that we finally explore the depths of love. Much beauty in your tone and texture here, Peter.
