Mail Call! (for Christmas)

by Jersey D Gibson

Nothing matters more
when you can't be home
for the holidays,
than a letter in the mail.

Saying everything's fine
at home and all the kids
love you, and everyone
is thinking of you.

Yeah, it isn't snowing here
but there's plenty of
commotion to go around
when the mail bag gets in.

You can see it in the eyes
of every one of us when
we get an envelope with
the names all written on.

You hold that paper like treasure
and save it because it's dear
and you might even go and
nail it on your wall.

Because nothing says it all
like a letter or a postcard
from home with everyone home
saying "I miss you."

Author's Note:
Thank to all of those who are in Afganistan, or Iraq (with me) for the holidays.
Thanks go to all those who have love ones over here, you contributions, well-wishes, and thanks are what make us deal with all the things we see.

Thanks to Kim, Natalie, Robert, Christine, Tissi, Quinlan, Crystal, Maggie, Tracey, Jasmine (and your wonderful drawings) and Shirley for your letters and packages.

Thanks also to Aaron, Anihe, Coco, Shannon, Rachel (Snowbunny!), Juliette, Vikki, Anne, Kristine, Gavin, Sallie, Jennifer, and Arianna for your comments and gratitude.

Thanks to Amanda, Brent, Aaron, Patricia, T.O., Sam Scion, and everyone else in the Forces with me. You guys rock!

Finally to my parents. Nothing's worse than seeing a child or husband/wife going off to the sandbox. Like Dorothy said, there is no place like home!

yer pal

Sheesh, like I actually needed to write you a letter, You have tons of people writing you letters. I suppose one more couldn't hurt anything, though ;). It should at least entertain you for a few minutes. ^-^
