Transparent Hypocrisy

by Kim Bennett

Passion forever and hatred erased.
I am a dreamer.

Humanity is pathetic by their own definition.
Hypocrisy.
Humane is characterized by kindness, compassion, and sympathy.
I have sympathy for those of us who must live here and realize this hypocrisy, this
Stupidity.
A word that should define humanity.
Compassion?
Who shows compassion for those killed for a
"Good cause?"
Americans are despised not because other's
Jealousy
Consumes them, rather, the Americans are
Arrogant
Never jealous of anyone but the rich, or
The "beautiful".

The starving girls.
If starvation is so goddamn beautiful,
Why are the hungry ignored?
Shouldn't the children with their skin
Melted to their ribs
Have their own movies, too?
Why aren't we jealous of them?

If we believe that body type suggests importance,
Why isn't the focus on Cambodia, instead of Hollywood?

If a starving, homeless, woman were to ask for a piece of food, she would be
Ignored.
When a movie star, intentionally starving herself,
Asks for a car, when she owns five already,
She is given one.

One wastes away because she must.
The other throws food away to become beautiful.

The homeless woman, may be more intellectual, a better person,
Who, due to circumstances beyond her control,
Lost everything she ever
Worked for.
And the movie star, dumbed down for
Society's sake,
Walks past her on the street,
Poses for a picture,
While the shadowed alley hides the other skinny woman.
The next evening, The Enquirer, whirled by the wind,
Drops onto a form of a forgotten peasant,
Covering her rippled body, then attaching to her face,
With the smiling, beautiful, façade of a woman with six cars.

Suddenly, I don't have a desire to be skinny anymore.

America, a country packed by different cultures.
Americans, the majority, a people filled with ideas of
Perfection.
Two words: Christian. White.
A people with a lack of melanin who
Stick themselves in a box radiating cancer to
Become a slightly lighter shade of those they ignore.

Do you see the pattern?

Different cultures, or uncommon colours
Have no place within the governments, or
The majority.

To them
Stupidity is bestowed upon those with
The most common sense, or those who
Speak a language, not their own.
Help is not the answer.
Destruction is the only option.

Los Angeles, California, the State of Starvation.
The "Golden State"
Gold because the only skin colour worth having is golden,
But only by false pretenses,
Burning flesh.
Or because money is the only worth.

A dark-skinned man walks to his home after buying a gallon of milk for his family,
To go with dinner.
Men with guns and uniforms, who stay out on the beach
On Saturdays,
To wash their skin with fire,
Rip open the carton, splashing
Whiteness
On the man's face, and then smear on
Various colours of blue, purple, and red,
Until he is no longer from any place on
This Earth.
But transformed into a different being altogether,
Higher than the rest.

And as his face is painted by the grey sidewalk,

And the green world,
By the black top of the road,
And the fiery, false skin of the men,
Transparent tears erase the colours,
And the uniformed men leave him to stare at the black and white
Of the universe, on the brown dirt.
And the red and yellow stars blink at him
Until his eyes close and his mind
Blinds him from viewing the world again.

I have a new definition of humanity.
Inhumane.

Author's Note: Yet another I deleted. I wrote this after reading "Always Running" by Luis Rodriguez. I was so upset when I was trying to write a paper about the book that I started crying and the paper really sucked, but I was able to rewrite it. But I hate discrimination more than anything in the world. Especially against skin colour, but against anything, really.
