Deeply Dug

by Uriel Tovar

my thoughts reverberate
through the walls
carving out the cavern
more than had been planned.
every thought not a knife cutting but
a shovel digging
entrenching ideas into me
growing my darkness deeper, wider
though I remain an empty hole
(gems lie at the bottom
of this?)
only to realize that
you can't shine on
like my crazy diamond
anymore
you've lost that twinkle
and you can't fill gaps
I can only feel you
like I see my breath
behind a cold and twister October night
with that January chill.
You have
entered me
I had posted signs
keep out
now you are lost
and I
still empty--
though you try, you cannot fill me.

Great collaboration - I was surprised. Usually they aren't so good. :)
