Shadows of Friendship

by Amy Niggel

A shadow fell across my heart
in the shape of your form
it cooled the warmth I had built up
left me shivering as realization dawned
every time I stood up
you stepped back
to let me take the fall
and shoulder the blame
you always said I was the irresponsible one
this time you were right

Amy, I love the way this poem evolves as I read it. Light bulbs go on, flash bulbs (if they still exist) go off. Nice writing.
