Those Days

by Richard Vince

Violent dreams...
Incarceration in the cage
You made for me.

When we talked, you gave
A label to everything about me
Even if it wasn't real.
But some things you ignored
Because you didn't want to see.

You knew you could never
Live with me in reality
So you wove a dream
Hoping it would be true
And I was really the one
You wanted me to be.

But here I am.
This is me.

Writing about you again
Because of the guilt I still carry
With me all the time.
It's too late to apologise
Even though I mean it.
And you wouldn't accept it
Anyway.

I want you to forget me
Even though I'll never forget you...
Or how stupid I was.

But I still try with words.
And I may never stop.
I'm not asking to go back...
Just to make better
If I can.

All those days are gone...
So she falls asleep every night
Just before dawn.

Sometimes our brain just won't allow us to let go. Doesn't matter what's best for us, we just keep on caring. Well penned.
