Image of Thanksgiving 2 - Celebration by Paganini Jones
pumpkin soup
around mouth and ears
- laughing toddler
the dogs wait, tails thumping
inevitable dropped scraps
grandad tells the tale
he told last year
- crackling fire
red apples on the table,
scattered nutshells and glasswear
clear starlit sky -
as the car draws away,
grandmother waving

Posted by William Simpson on 06/12/07 at 03:21 AM methinks this a grand example of bits and pieces of holidays past, or perhaps holiday expectations yet to be filled. the images pf red apples and fire, happy pets and spent tables, and the idea of family waving you off into a starlit holiday night are all hallmarks of a very personal nature, yet so enjoyed by all!
Not a poem for the rubbish bin, my friend. |
