MOMENT 13 by Graeme Fielden
i too wish that
i knew what it’s all about
how do you capture the essence
of a second’s learning
into a lifetime of progression?
Instead I shall sit,
sip at a draught called humility
flitter with the angels as i watch
the melancholic movement of water
through a drainpipe.
Ponder the majesty of gravity
perhaps that's enough...

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 11/30/05 at 01:52 AM Meditation does humble one doesn't it? The mundane, the very routine, can cause us pause if we take thought. For the Christian, regardless of how ordinary life can be he/she knows the Father cares. A most thought provoking poem, Graeme |
Posted by Charles E Minshall on 11/30/05 at 02:50 AM I guess for one standing under the earth gravity
would be quite a poser. Good poem Graeme |
Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 11/30/05 at 04:44 AM Graeme, a wonderful moment, and poem. In both meditation and in life, one should strive to be free of attachment to the good experiences, and free of aversion to the negative ones. A contempative life, for me. Nice writing. |
Posted by Max Bouillet on 12/01/05 at 03:56 AM Watch out for those angels... they still the draught, replace it with the water from the drain pipe, and conjure the essence of frustration. ;) All kidding aside, this is an impressive reflective work that forces the reader to think at multiple levels. |
Posted by Michele Schottelkorb on 12/02/05 at 01:50 PM i can feel the melancholy in this... i can breathe it in... and drink it like a good ale... blessings... |
Posted by Morgan D Hafele on 12/05/05 at 06:58 AM amazing! and the form really helped drive this piece... |
Posted by Michelle Angelini on 12/07/05 at 11:05 PM Graeme, the form, theme, thought, everything... make this poem memorable. L3-4 are the poem's essence and "humility" the key to the amount of learning. I'm glad this appeared on the list, because it's a reminder I need.

Posted by Laura Doom on 12/08/05 at 12:20 AM I guess the answer is to appreciate it, and not feel the need to 'capture' it, as you have so eloquently inferred here :) |
Posted by JD Clay on 09/17/08 at 11:47 PM Moments like this don’t come often enough. But when they do you gotta inch back and soak it up. Then when you stop the world from spinning and take a breath it everything resonates with the clarity of a mountain stream. I like this poem for it’s contemplative mood and cogent message. Good stuff, Graeme! |
