the notes you'll never hear

by Ava Blu

I dream of holding a violin in my arms
sitting on a bench while snow covers me

there you stand, lurking behind someone else’s shadow
because yours is too weak to surface

I never skip a beat
playing into the role you said I couldn’t keep

these letters cannot run together
as long as you stay away

sound gaining control
power becoming strength

I don’t miss what I thought we had

I am beautiful
even when your lies still cover my hands

unlike her,
I don’t need any extra weight to hide behind

these words are living
they have taken over

the page has taken your place,
sitting beside me waving;

hello.

"i don't miss what i thought we had" ...I love this line. I just may marry it :)

I love this, but I really like those last five stanzas. The build-up (especially: "unlike her, I don’t need any extra weight to hide behind") to that great, final single-word line is just perfect. When you write, you're never anything less than completely in control, and that comes through beautifully in this.
